THE STUDIO
R
Friends Make Books is a print studio specializing in Risograph printing.
We started the studio in 2012 around a Risograph printer, our aim is to develop small scale publishing models which include all aspects of the production process, from concept, to design, printing and binding.

Printing with friends
We provide print-on-demand, small edition book making services to artists, illustrators, small publishers, students and professionals, facilitating people interested in printing and self publishing.
Friends Make Books was born from a graphic design practice which, with the addition of the Risograph, evolved into a print studio. So we also provide design and layout services for anyone interested in producing books, flyers cards and more.

We’re not a faceless ‘copy-shop’ and printing with us involves entering into a dialog both with us and with the machine itself in order to achieve the best results.
Our years-long experiments with the Risograph process have given us a working knowledge that enables us to find design solutions that are both practical and beautiful.
Printing on a Risograph involves translating your idea into the language of the machine, and we are here to help you make decisions specifically with the Risograph technique in mind. This may mean your project will need to be adjusted and tweaked in order to achieve the best results.
Feel free to contact us to discuss your project, we can help you understand the all the possibilities, solutions and limitations or simply to find out if this technique is right for your project.
Workshops
Friends Make Books occasionally host workshops on Risograph printing and other specialty book-making techniques.
If you’d like to stay informed about our workshops please email us your interest to info@friendsmakebooks.com e and we’ll keep your email on record for future events.

Plan ahead
If you’re interested in printing with us it’s always best to approach us with enough advance time, we are a small scale operation so don’t expect enquiries and questions to be answered immediately.
An average book project takes up to two weeks or more to produce, and all jobs are scheduled as they come in.
